The Law of the Lord Is Perfect

Psa 19:1  To the director: A song of David. The heavens tell about the glory of God. The skies announce what his hands have made.
Psa 19:2  Each new day tells more of the story, and each night reveals more and more about God’s power.
Psa 19:3  You cannot hear them say anything. They don’t make any sound we can hear.
Psa 19:4  But their message goes throughout the world. Their teaching reaches the ends of the earth. The sun’s tent is set up in the heavens.
Psa 19:5  It comes out like a happy bridegroom from his bedroom. It begins its path across the sky like an athlete eager to run a race.
Psa 19:6  It starts at one end of the sky and runs all the way to the other end. Nothing can hide from its heat.
Psa 19:7  The LORD’S teachings are perfect. They give strength to his people. The LORD’S rules can be trusted. They help even the foolish become wise.
Psa 19:8  The LORD’S laws are right. They make people happy. The LORD’S commands are good. They show people the right way to live.
Psa 19:9  Learning respect for the LORD is good. It will last forever. The LORD’S judgments are right. They are completely fair.
Psa 19:10  His teachings are worth more than pure gold. They are sweeter than the best honey dripping from the honeycomb.
Psa 19:11  His teachings warn his servants, and good things come to those who obey them.
Psa 19:12  People cannot see their own mistakes, so don’t let me commit secret sins.
Psa 19:13  Don’t let me do what I know is wrong. Don’t let sin control me. If you help me, I can be pure and free from sin.
Psa 19:14  May my words and thoughts please you. LORD, you are my Rock—the one who rescues me.

Life in His Spirit

Rom 8:1-6; So now anyone who is in Christ Jesus is not judged guilty.  That is because in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit that brings life made you free. It made you free from the law that brings sin and death. The law was without power because it was made weak by our sinful selves. But God did what the law could not do: He sent his own Son to earth with the same human life that everyone else uses for sin. God sent him to be an offering to pay for sin. So God used a human life to destroy sin.  He did this so that we could be right just as the law said we must be. Now we don’t live following our sinful selves. We live following the Spirit.  People who live following their sinful selves think only about what they want. But those who live following the Spirit are thinking about what the Spirit wants them to do.  If your thinking is controlled by your sinful self, there is spiritual death. But if your thinking is controlled by the Spirit, there is life and peace.

Authentic Love

Authentic Love

1 Corinthians 13:5d

Love Keeps no Record of Wrongs!

General Idea: When God tells us that love keeps no record of wrongs, He means we do not go around with a list, writing down the faults of one another. Rather, we are to look for the positive things that happen in our relationships, and to affirm others. We are to seek reconciliation and forgiveness, never strife or dissention. We should not go around with a negative attitude, but rather with one that is positive, enthusiastic, and equipping to God’s people. We are not to keep track of the mistreatments we may receive from friends or our spouse. Because God loves us so much, He does not keep a scorecard of our sins as long as we honestly repent of them. We do not need to reflect negatively or gossip about the flaws of other people in order to elevate ourselves. God refuses to do that to us. Love lets things such as resentment and anger go, so they do not build up and destroy us and our relationships.

Authentic Love is not resentful and does not keep a scorecard!
